Sustainable development

Responding to the challenges of the modern world

Sustainable development is one of the most important and up-to-date trends, gaining increasing significance. It assumes the responsible management of available resources in such a way that they are sufficient to build the prosperity of the current generation, while also meeting the needs of future generations.

It aims to contribute to solving global problems and to maintaining a balance between environmental, social and economic needs. Fortunately, the growing awareness of governments, businesses and societies offers an opportunity to build a world for future generations in which everyone would like to live.

Our actions

The business objective of our company is to provide our customers with safe, cost-effective and environmentally friendly energy, which also includes the development of products and services that increase energy efficiency. We operate in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (read more).

Climate scenarios leave no doubt – we must move away from burning fossil fuels and reduce carbon dioxide emissions as quickly as possible in order to protect the world from irreversible effects of climate change. The coming years will be a time of revolutionary transformation in the energy sector, and the present holds the potential for change. That is why already today, together with specialists and experts, we are working on a concept of phasing out coal combustion by 2030 across all companies of the SEC Group! Thanks to the development of high-efficiency cogeneration and other alternative low- or zero-emission energy sources, the use of fifth-generation low-temperature networks, as well as the digitalisation and digitisation of processes, this ambitious goal is not only necessary, but also achievable!

We carry out our activities based on EU requirements and guidelines, and sustainable development is the foundation of all business decisions. We believe that our commitment and the achievement of environmental goals will not only strengthen our market position, but will also make a real contribution to achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement (limiting the increase in the global average temperature to 1.5°C) and climate neutrality by 2050.

This is how we deliver on our commitments

In business, a company’s condition is measured and assessed on the basis of financial results such as revenues, profits or the value of assets. Today, the scope of these parameters is already being expanded to include additional key indicators that measure progress in the implementation of sustainable development.

ESG reporting (sustainability reporting) is an additional set of data that complements financial information and enables an even more comprehensive assessment of a company’s operations. The information obtained through ESG reporting serves as a valuable source of knowledge that supports management in decision-making. But not only that. It is also used by financial institutions, stakeholders and customers to assess the impact of a company’s activities on the environment, society and corporate governance standards, and to determine their willingness to cooperate with such an enterprise.

At Szczecińska Energetyka Cieplna, we began ESG reporting in 2021. As a company striving for responsible and sustainable development, we are well aware of how crucial this area is. In line with our strategic commitment:

  • we increase our transparency and credibility,
  • we make every effort to cooperate with entities that operate in a sustainable manner,
  • we focus on implementing actions and carrying out environmentally sustainable investments within our company. The EU Taxonomy supports us in this process. Thanks to this Regulation, we are able to define criteria and determine whether a given economic activity qualifies as environmentally sustainable,
  • by allocating our capital to environmentally friendly activities, we expand the scope of our actions to protect the natural environment.

ESG – why is it so important?
